Meeting summaries

Daisy turns a meeting's transcript into a structured summary you can scan in seconds and edit when you need to.

Open the summary

In a meeting, select the summary tab. A summary opens with a TL;DR callout at the top, followed by sections that typically include:

  • Action items with owners and due dates
  • Decisions that were made
  • Open questions still to resolve
  • Key topics discussed

Because Daisy knows which speaker is you, the summary is written from your point of view — action items assigned to you read in the first person.

Generate a summary

If a meeting has no summary yet, the summary tab shows a Generate summary button. Generating runs transcription and de-duplication first if needed, then produces the summary. Watch the progress overlay while it works. A summary needs a configured summary provider, which you set in Settings → Providers.

Summaries always need an AI service — there's no good fully-offline option for this step yet. You have three choices:

  • Cloud (recommended) — Anthropic, OpenAI, or Groq with your own API key. Roughly 5¢–50¢ per meeting depending on model and length.
  • Local AI (advanced) — LM Studio or Ollama at an endpoint reachable from this machine. Free, but only as good as the model you run. See Running Daisy fully offline.
  • Skip the provider and use your own ChatGPT or Claude via copy-paste (next section).

Paste it into your own chat

If you don't have an API key and don't want to run a local AI server, you can summarize manually for free:

  1. Open the meeting and select the transcript tab.
  2. Click Copy all to copy the full transcript to your clipboard.
  3. Open your own ChatGPT, Claude, or other chat session in a browser.
  4. Paste the transcript, ask for the summary you want, and copy the answer back.
  5. In Daisy, open the summary tab, click Edit summary, paste it in, and Save.

No API key, no per-meeting bill, and your audio still never leaves your computer — only the text transcript does, and only if you choose to paste it.

Edit a summary

  1. Open the Action menu and choose Edit summary.
  2. Adjust the text in the editor.
  3. Click Save.

To rebuild the summary from scratch, open the Action menu and choose Regen. Summary. If you have hand-edited the summary, Daisy warns you before overwriting your changes.

Good to know

  • Summaries are produced by your configured summary provider, so the wording and depth depend on the model you have selected.
  • The eyebrow above the meeting title shows which provider and model produced the current summary.
