Syncing recordings from your phone

Daisy on iPhone or iPad records meetings on the phone. Pair the phone with this computer and those recordings arrive in your Library, where they get the same transcription, speaker labels, and summary as anything you record here. Recordings move over your own network, encrypted with keys that stay on your devices.

A phone pairs with one computer. Each computer has its own pairing code.

Recordings travel one way: from the phone to this computer.

Pair a phone

On this computer, open Settings and select Mobile Sync.
Click Show pairing code. A QR code appears and a countdown starts — the code is good for 90 seconds.
On the phone, open Daisy, go to Settings → Desktop Sync, and scan the code.
The phone appears under Paired phones with the date it paired.

If the countdown runs out before you scan, click Show pairing code again for a fresh one. One code pairs one phone.

The first code on Windows

The first time the code shows, Windows asks whether to allow Daisy through its firewall. Choose Allow.

If you choose Cancel, phones stay blocked until you allow Daisy by hand, under Windows Security → Firewall & network protection → Allow an app through firewall. That change needs an administrator.

When a phone syncs

Once a phone is paired, Settings → Mobile Sync tells you how it reaches this computer and when it can sync:

On a Mac with Bluetooth on, a phone syncs even when its Daisy app is closed.
With Bluetooth off, or on Windows and Linux, a phone syncs when you open Daisy on it and both devices are on the same network.
If macOS hasn't granted Bluetooth permission, the panel says so and points you at System Settings → Privacy & Security → Bluetooth.

The panel also shows each phone's last seen time, so you can tell whether a sync has happened recently. This computer accepts phone connections only while your vault is unlocked, and only while a phone is paired or a code is showing.

What comes across

A synced meeting arrives as a session of this computer's own:

The recording, so you can play it back here.
The transcript and speaker labels, re-run through this computer's pipeline — so a phone meeting gets the same summary and chapters as one recorded here.
Notes you typed on the phone, including notes pinned to transcript lines. Search finds them and Ask reads them. Notes stay phone-owned: Daisy on this computer doesn't edit them.
Your tags and contacts, merged in both directions. Edit a tag on either device and the newer edit wins.

The finished summary makes the return trip, so the phone shows the write-up this computer produced. That covers the meetings the phone recorded.

Deleting a synced meeting on either device deletes it on the other.

What stays on this computer

A meeting you record on this computer stays on this computer. The Library here is where everything ends up: what you record on this machine, and what the phone sends over.

Unpair a phone

In Settings → Mobile Sync, find the phone under Paired phones and click Unpair. It stops syncing until it pairs again. Nothing else is remembered, so the same phone can pair again from a fresh code.

When a recording can't be opened

Sometimes a phone recording arrives that this computer can't open. The Mobile Sync panel lists it, a toast tells you when it happens, and both name the fix:

Pairing the phone again clears its refusals, so whatever it offers next is tried fresh.
