What stays on your device
Recording, transcription and speaker labels run on your computer or iPhone, and the audio stays there. Summaries run on your device too when the hardware supports it. Otherwise you pick a local AI server, or a cloud provider you hold a BAA with. Configuring Daisy for HIPAA and PHI.
Questions
Is Daisy HIPAA compliant?⌄
HIPAA compliance belongs to how a practice uses its tools; there is no HIPAA certification for software. Daisy can be set up so PHI stays on your devices, and the setup guide maps each step to the HIPAA Security Rule.
Do I need a BAA with Daisy?⌄
With an on-device setup, Daisy never receives PHI, so no business associate exists. If you choose a cloud AI provider for summaries, your BAA is directly with that provider.
Does any PHI leave my device?⌄
Audio stays on your device. Transcript text leaves only if you add your own cloud AI key, and then it goes straight from your device to that provider.
How do I protect recordings on my computer?⌄
Turn on full-disk encryption: FileVault on a Mac, BitLocker on Windows, LUKS on Linux. On iPhone, Daisy keeps recordings encrypted inside the app and can require Face ID.
Can I record in-person visits?⌄
Yes. Record through your computer's microphone, or use the iPhone app in the room.
What about patient consent?⌄
Daisy asks you to confirm consent before your first recording. Put a recording-consent notice in place for your jurisdiction.
